Educational Scholarships


The American Morgan Horse Institute, Inc. encourages excellence in youth by providing scholarships to outstanding young men and women.


The following is a general outline of the program:


1. Five $3,000 scholarships are available annually.


2. The scholarships will be paid directly to a college or university, trade school or vocational 

training program within two years after the award of the scholarship. Upon receipt of the 

award, a written request from the recipient must be made for payment to the designated 

school.


3. The program is open to any young man or woman who is/will be a high school 

graduate/GED.


4. The following criteria will be considered important:


a. The applicant has completed or is involved in the American 

Morgan Horse Association (AMHA) Horsemastership Program, or


b. the applicant is involved in a 4H/FFA program, or


c. the applicant has won a USA Equestrian (formerly AHSA) and/or 

AMHA Medal for equitation, or


d. the applicant has placed in the top two in the junior division or the top 

four in the adult division of an open competition program.


5. Selection will be based on the ability and aptitude for serious study, community service, 

leadership, financial need and achievement with Morgan horses.


6. Previous winners of an AMHI Scholarship are ineligible to participate a second time. 

Previous applicants who did not win a scholarship may re-apply.


7. Applications and three (3) reference letters relative to character, ability and achievement, 

with the most recent transcript from high school and school in attendance at the time of 

application must be postmarked no later than March 1. All candidates will be notified by 

June 15.


8 If, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, no applicant meets the standards as set by the 

Committee, the scholarship funds will be held within the AMHI account.
