The American Morgan Horse Institute, Inc. encourages excellence in youth by providing scholarships to outstanding young men and women.

The following is a general outline of the Educational Scholarship program:

  1. Five $3,000 scholarships are available annually.
  2. The scholarships are paid directly to a college, university, trade school, or vocational training program within two years after the award of the scholarship. Upon receipt of the award, a written request from the recipient must be made in order for payment to the designated school to be made.
  3. The program is open to any young man or woman who is/will be a high school graduate/GED.
  4. The following criteria are considered important:
    a.  The applicant has completed or is involved in the American Morgan Horse Association (AMHA) Horsemastership Program, or
    b. the applicant is involved in a 4H/FFA program, or      
    c.  the applicant has won a USA Equestrian (formerly AHSA) and/or AMHA Medal for equitation, or
    d. the applicant has placed in the top two in the junior division or the top four in the adult division of an open competition program.
  5. Selection will be based on the ability and aptitude for serious study, community service, leadership, financial need, and achievement with Morgan horses.
  6. Previous winners of an AMHI Scholarship are ineligible to participate a second time. Previous applicants who did not win a scholarship may re-apply.
  7. Applications and three (3) reference letters relative to character, ability and achievement, with the most recent transcript from high school or other school in attendance at the time of application must be postmarked no later than March 1. All candidates will be notified by June 15.
  8. If, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, no applicant meets the standards as set by the Committee, the scholarship funds will be held within the AMHI account.

Our 2010 Educational Scholarships included:

  1. 2010 AMHI DAN AND LESLIE KELLEY EDUCATIONAL YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP: The entire Kelley family has a lifelong love of the Morgan Horse and lives their dreams competitively under the Victory Lane Farm banner from their home in Mendon, Massachusetts.
  2. 2010 AMHI HELEN BRUNK GREENWALT AND DORIS GREENWALT RYAN MEMORIAL EDUCATIONAL YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP: The daughter of J. Roy Brunk, the midwestern pioneer for the Morgan horse, Helen Brunk Greenwalt was an astute breeder and horsewoman who inspired many young people to learn the history and the makings of this great breed. Not the least of her inspired students was her daughter, Doris Greenwalt Ryan, who followed in her mother's footsteps as an eminent horsewoman, a breeder in her own right and a mentor to many of today's contemporary Morgan breeders, trainers and enthusiasts.
  3. 2010 AMHI WHEAT STATE EDUCATIONAL YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP: The Wheat State Morgan Horse Association, founded in 1962, encourages and promotes the breeding and use of Morgan horses, promotes interest in registered purebred and part-bred Morgans as versatile horses, and cooperates with other Morgan-affiliated organizations in working for the advancement of the breed. It operates the Wheat State Regional Morgan Horse Show in June in Hutchinson, Kansas. The Association, through its
    regional horse show, generously donates proceeds from the horse show to the AMHI Scholarship Program.
