AMHI Graywood Youth Horsemanship Grant
"Credo equus nos coegisse"
The American Morgan Horse Institute, Inc. encourages excellence in youth by providing scholarships and grants to outstanding young men and women.
The Graywood Youth Horsemanship Grant is available through the generosity of the Graywood Foundation, Inc.
The following is a general outline of the Graywood Youth Horsemanship Grant:
1. Qualifications: It is intended that recipients of this grant be Morgan youth club or American Morgan Horse Association members, ages 13 - 21, in good standing. A recipient need not own his/her own Morgan horse nor have competed in any particular number of shows nor have achieved any particular degree of ribbon placement at any show.
2. Intent: This grant is designed to provide to at least one (not more than two) Morgan youth per year the opportunity to spend three to five days with transportation and board expense met through grant funds to (a) further his/her study in the mastery of horse care and keeping; (b) receive tutelage from breed professionals in the categories of breeding and management and/or horse training and/or riding or driving; (c) ride and/or drive quality Morgan horses, thereby improving proficiency; and (d) acquire skills and knowledge from "hands-on" experience. It is hoped that the benefits of the program will positively augment the recipients’ education and experience that they otherwise might not access.
Candidates for consideration of award should be deserving young people who have a demonstrated interest, commitment, and need. Many young people do not enjoy the advantages of personal ownership or affiliation with a training stable or breeding farm nor do they have the ability or subsidy required to pursue their love of horses and horsemanship. This grant is designed to provide that opportunity.
3. Previous winners of a Graywood Youth Horsemanship Grant are ineligible to participate a second time. Previous applicants who did not win a grant may re-apply.
4. Applications must be postmarked no later than March 1. Candidates will be notified by June 1.
5. If, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, no applicant meets the standards set by the Committee, the grant funds will be held within the AMHI account.
